practice 2006/07 - monographs series

"The images created for this series progressed in a way similiar to amorphous organisms such as protozoa, bacteria, and jellyfish. The paintings begin from abstract membranes of visual information (a stain, a light wash of paint) which slowly mature and acquire distinct figurative features and odd articulations, defined with the use of pencil marks, watercolours, and gouache."

practice 2005 - the begining of the process | student statement

Throughout my last year as a student I focused on a series of paintings and drawings which studied the creative process of the work itself. My work varies from elaborate ink paintings to my latest drawings featuring the use of different teas and colour pencils. These "staindrawings" envolve a process of staining the paper with a tea bag in order to create intricate and unique marks. Later the process envolves drawing, writting and different techniques that work together in order to enhance the stains making them become no longer a simple tea stain but a rock, a cloud, a face, whatever the viewer can see... The work deals with aspects of how a drawing/ mark are created, and how we perceive and see things within the boundaries of drawing. They jump betweem being simple doodling, intriguing maps, diaries of thougths or maybe an attempt to create a new visual language.
